Speciality Elastomer Blends for Abrasion Resistant Tyre Tread of Dump-Trucks...

<u>SPECIALITY ELASTOMER BLENDS FOR ABRASION RESISTANT TYRE TREAD OF DUMP-TRUCKS: <u> Seventy percent or more of all natural rubber goes into tyres mostly into large truck tyres, off‐the‐road giant tyres and aircraft tyres. Here, low heat generation properties in service are of paramount importance, along with low rolling resistance. Recent work in the 80’s has seen the development of natural rubber‐based compounds for truck tyre retreading to match the wear of all synthetic compounds, and these, because of their lower rolling resistance, give the added benefit of better fuel economy. Here, the earlier oil‐extended natural rubber technology used for dump‐truck tyres can provide better grip on mines haul road with lower rolling resistance. The purpose of this study is to outline how the different tyre rubber blends of dumptrucks may be the material to use to get rid of some of these problems. Nano Clay and E‐glass fibre with NR and SBR blends will also be presented to illustrate their potential as the reinforcing phase in composites and also it includes discussion on compatibility of these blends. Emphasis will be placed on several properties of the blend system in addition of different types of fillers and compatibilizers.
