Green Composites: Development of Poly (Vinyl Alcohol) and its Copolymer-Wood Dust Composites

The Wood Industry And Agribusiness Produce Large Amounts Of Biomass. This Biomass Is One Of The Most Abundant Sources Of Natural Polymer (Cellulose) And Its Utilization Not Only Adds Value To One Of The Most Versatile Raw Materials (Wood), But Also Contributes To Reduce Environmental Concerns Regarding The Disposal Of Waste Wood. Wood Flour Can Be Added To Plastics, Ceramics, Paints And Molds To Enhance Their Surface Properties. Moreover, Its Moldability Offers A Variety Of Potential Applications When Transformed Into Fine Powder, Which Can Be Molded Into The Desired Shape, Without Requiring Adhesives Or Chemicals, At Temperatures Of 220 °C And High Pressures Of 100 Mpa. Pva Is The Most Widely Produced Water Soluble And Biodegradable Synthetic Polymer Worldwide. It Is Easily Esterified Or Etherified And Undergoes Many Other Reactions Whose Behavior Resembles That Of Molecular Alcohols. Its Water Solubility Is Related To The Degree Of Hydrolysis And Of Polymerization, With A Maximum At 88% Hydrolysis And Higher Solubility For Lower Degrees Of Polymerization. Its Easy Processing, Excellent Mechanical Properties And High Content Of Hydroxyl Groups Qualify It To Serve As The Basis Of A Green Composite With Wood Dust. The Present Work Discusses The Rational Use Of Waste Wood Dust From The Wood Industry To Produce A Green Composite Utilizing Waste Wood Dust And A Totally Biodegradable Polymer. The Final Composite Possesses Properties, Such As Durability, Improved Mechanical Properties And A Swelling Prevention Behavior Superior To Those Of Solid Wood, Which Do Not, However, Affect The Material's Propensity To Be Degraded Under Natural Conditions. Changes In The Composites' Mechanical Properties And Structure During The Soil Burial Test Were Studied By Sem And Correlations Established Between The Composites' Structure, Mechanical Properties And Weight Loss. In Mechanical Reinforcement Major Issues Are The Homogeneous Dispersion
