Sloshing Response and Dynamic Behaviour of Structural Element in Liquid Filled Container

Sloshing Response and Dynamic Behaviour of Structural Element in Liquid Filled Container

Sloshing Is A Physical Phenomenon Characterized By The Oscillation Of Unrestrained Free Surface Of Liquid In A Partially Liquid Filled Container Due To External Excitation. In Many Situations, Undesirable Liquid Spilling Occurs Off The Containers Due To Such Sloshing. To Reduce Such Slosh Elevation, Structural Elements (Baffle) As Suppressing Devices Are Provided In The Container. Structural Element Is Generally Used In Container To Stiffen The Container Wall Or Suppress The Slosh Motion. The Obstacles That Are Created By Such Kind Of Structural Element Change The Slosh Characteristics And Motion Of Liquid In The Container. The Flow Characteristics Around The Structural Element And Slosh Induced Vibration Of Such Structural Element Are Important Aspects To Be Known For Safe And Efficient Design Of The Structural Element And Containers. In The Present Investigation, An Experimental Study Has Been Carried Out To Understand The Sloshing Behaviour Of Liquid In Container And Flow Characteristics Around The Structural Element In Liquid-Filled Container Under External Excitation. For The Experimentation Purpose, A Prismatic Tank Made Of Glass Is Used. The Container Is Mounted On A Shaking Table That Can Perform A Periodic Motion In The Horizontal Plane. Simple Instruments Are Used To Measure The Free Surface Slosh Height, Hydrodynamic Pressure And Vibrational Parameters Of The Structural Element In Liquid Medium. Free Surface Slosh Elevations Are Measured At Different Position Of The Container Wall For Sinusoidal Base Excitation. In The Present Study, A Cantilever Plate That Is Fixed On One Of The Walls Of The Container Is Treated As Structural Element. The Sloshing Behaviour Is Studied In Prismatic Container With This Structural Element. It Is Observed From The Experiments That The Slosh Elevation Nearer To The Wall Of The Container Is Depended On The Shape, Size, Position Of The Plate Below The Free Surface, Depth Of Liquid In Container And External Excitation. The Free And Forced Vibrational Response Of Structural Element In Liquid Medium Is Carried Out Experimentally. Initially, The Free Vibration Response Of The Structural Element Is Carried Out In Air And Liquid Medium. Subsequently, Slosh Induced Vibrational Response Of Structural Element In Liquid Filled Container Is Studied Under External Excitation. The
